Schengen travel with residence permit but over 90 days

Schengen travel with residence permit but over 90 days - White Concrete House Under Cloudy Sky

I am a bit confused about traveling as a researcher in Schengen countries. I am a citizen of the United States, but have a residence permit to live in Finland. Based on the immigration office here, this means I can spend 90 days out of any 180 day period in any Schengen country without a visa.

However, does this mean that I can apply for a visa as a researcher in a Schengen country and not violate the rules of my residence permit? I talked to a person at migri (immigration office; https://migri.fi/en/travelling), and they suggested that I temporarily emigrate, and then I can be on a researcher visa in the other Schengen country without it counting against the Schengen clock. Has anybody else gone through this?

What happens if you exceed 90 days in Schengen?

The Schengen law states that you can't stay in the Area for more than 90 days. If you do, you're subject to a fine and possibly deportation and being banned from re-entering the Schengen Area. How that rule is enforced, though, varies greatly from one country to another.

Can I travel in Schengen with residence permit only?

Holding a residence permit in Germany (or any other Schengen country, in fact) entitles you to free travel within the Schengen zone for the duration of your visa or permit.

How do you get around the 90 day rule Schengen?

Well, you can tour around different Schengen member states like France, Spain, or Germany and by the time you hit your 90-day limit, go and hop over to a non-Schengen European country like Croatia, UK, North Macedonia, or Turkey to wait until you hit the 181st day so that you can come back to the Schengen Area again.

Can you stay in Europe for more than 3 months after Brexit?

Now that the UK is outside the EU, British passport holders can stay for a maximum of 90 days per 180-day period. UK passport holders can cross an external EU border using just a valid passport and stay anywhere in the Schengen Area for up to 3 months.
