Travel to other countries on a Schengen Visa [duplicate]

Travel to other countries on a Schengen Visa [duplicate] - Passport on Top of a Planner

I have a Schengen visa from Switzerland which I'm touring this Summer

However they gave me a visa for 1 year.

Can I use the same visa to travel to Santorini, Greece (with a 1 night layover in Vienna, Austria)?

You can use a Swiss Schengen visa to travel to Austria/Greece but you have to pay attention to a few other things than its period of validity:

  • The visa should be valid (it's your case as you said it's valid for one year) but also allow multiple entries and sufficient length of stay (both are also mentioned on the sticker). For example, if your visa is a single entry visa, you cannot fly to Switzerland, leave the Schengen area and then reenter in Vienna. And multiple entry visas are generally intended to offer the holder more flexibility so it's very important to check whether yours is indeed a multiple entry visas.

  • If you show up somewhere completely unexpected, you might be asked why you have a visa from Switzerland and challenged to prove you meet all the other conditions for entry. That's why it's always advisable to first complete the trip you described on your application and then see about doing another trip. Having already entered the Schengen area and left once without incident also increases your credibility.

Can I visit multiple countries with Schengen visa?

Yes. According to the Schengen rules, the Schengen visa is generally valid for all the countries in the Schengen area.

Can I have 2 Schengen visas at the same time?

In theory, it is not possible for a person to hold two valid short stay visas covering the same period. I have a valid Schengen visa but it does not cover my next intended stay, what can I do? In this case, it is possible to file a visa application for another Schengen visa to cover the next intended stay entirely.

Can I have two visas at the same time for different countries?

Yes you can. No 2 countries share data with each other. Neither are they bothered about you applying visa at the same time. You can apply visa to N number of countries at the same time.

What is double entry Schengen visa?

A double-entry visa (\u201c2\u201d on the visa sticker): allows its holder to enter the Schengen area twice during the validity period of the visa. You can thus leave the Schengen area and re-enter it during that period of time. The second time you leave the area, your visa expires.
