I am traveling from Hawaii, back to Indonesia. Is it possible to stay in the hotel around Narita airport during 20 hours layover, to catch up the next plane?

Best Answer

In normal times yes, but due to COVID Japan remains essentially closed at this time, with only Japanese citizens and close relatives allowed to enter. So I'm afraid you'll be stuck in the airport.

Narita does have day use hotel rooms, but it is not a 24-hour airport, so I'm actually not entirely sure your connection is legal. I would suggest you double-check with the airline.

Can you leave the airport during a layover in Japan?

For a short layover within the airport a visa is not needed, for a longer layover such as an overnight stay which will see you leaving the terminal you will need a tourist visa or a transit visa. Whichever the case may be you can certainly make the most out of your brief stay in Japan!

What do you do on a 20 hour layover?

If you book a flight with a layover, do your homework ahead of time by checking out the airport website for information. Find out if there are restaurants, shops, or other activities to pass the time. Some airports (usually those in larger cities) have theatres, museums, gyms, and even play areas for the kids.

Does Japan airlines provide hotel for long layover?

Yes they do, however provided you're not picking the longer transit by choice, transits of 8 hours or longer but not more than 24 hours will attract STPC accommodation with JAL.

Can I get out of airport if I have 20 hour layover?

Yes, you can leave the airport during a layover, provided your passport allows you visa-free entry to the country you're in and you have enough time between flights. In fact, some people intentionally book flights with longer layovers (which are often cheaper) so they get to see a new city.
