Traveling with 2 passports (German and US) but with a layover in England [duplicate]

Traveling with 2 passports (German and US) but with a layover in England [duplicate] - Bridge over River in City

I've read several great posts about traveling with 2 passports, specifically German and US. I'll be leaving Boston for Berlin with a layover in Iceland. In Iceland and Germany I will show my German passport. I know that when I am ready to leave Germany, I need to check in with my US passport and then go through exit customs showing my German passport.

My question is the following:

On my return flight from Munich to Boston, I have a layover in London. Which passport do I show them at customs upon entering? And which passport do I use in exit customs?

Thanks!

On your flight from Munich to Boston, it is probably easiest to show your German passport. As a German citizen, you can enter the UK with no formalities due to free movement (certainly for the next month or so, anyway).

In the unlikely event that the UK border officer questions your use of your German passport because of your flight booking, then show them the US one. They understand that many people hold dual passports and will not object.

I hold two passports and occasionally have to specifically show one or the other depending on what questions the immigration officers ask.

Can I leave a country with one passport and enter with another?

Dual nationals may also be required by the foreign country to use its passport to enter and leave that country. Use of the foreign passport to travel to or from a country other than the United States is not inconsistent with U.S. law.

Can you leave UK on one passport and enter on another?

There are no real restrictions or definitive rules on which passport you use to book a flight, or any other form of international travel whether via ferry or train. For example, the British passport may allow visa-free entry to more countries than your other passport.

How do you travel with two passports if you have dual citizenship?

Travelling with two passports: which passport to use when dual citizen is at an airline counter. You need to show your second passport, for example a Maltese one. Usually, along with the ticket, the passenger must present a visa allowing entry to the European Union.

Can dual citizens use both passports?

As a dual citizen, you are allowed to carry passports from both countries. For example, if you are a U.S. citizen and also a citizen of New Zealand, you can travel more easily between these two countries.
