Length of visit for 2 year UK tourist visa

Length of visit for 2 year UK tourist visa - Back view of unrecognizable man walking towards ancient monument Great Sphinx of Giza

I am planning to apply for long term tourist visa for my mom and I wanted to know how long can she stay in UK if granted a 2 or 5 year visa. And if it's 6 months, then can she come back by making an international visit for few weeks?

Best Answer

The holder of a long-term UK visitor visa can stay for up to 6 months on each visit. Having a long-term visa doesn’t remove the need to demonstrate that the holder is a genuine visitor as stated in the Immigration Rules V 4.2 https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-v-visitor-rules (a) will leave the UK at the end of their visit; and (b) will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK their main home

Making visa runs will quickly lead to your mother being refused entry if Border officials think she is trying to use a visitor visa to effectively live in the UK. There is no stated period in the Rules, but as a general guide your mother should spend at least the same amount of time outside the UK as in it.

How long can I stay in the UK on a tourist visa?

You can visit the UK as a Standard Visitor for tourism, business, study (courses up to 6 months) and other permitted activities. You can usually stay in the UK for up to 6 months. You might be able to apply to stay for longer in certain circumstances, for example to get medical treatment.

Is the UK 180 day rule per visit or per year?

Visit visas allow stays of no longer than 6 months (or 180 days) per visit. Visit visas can be valid for long term periods (1 year or more), facilitating multiple visits. Additionally, those using visit visas are in general more limited in the activities they are permitted to undertake while in the UK.

Can I leave the UK after 6 months and come back?

Your new Visitor immigration permission may not be for a further six months: the Border Force Officer may give you just the time you need to complete your studies, or six months minus the length of time you recently spent in the UK as a Visitor.

Can I visit the UK twice in a tourist visa holding of a 6 month multi visit visa?

That six-month limit on any one stay applies even if the visit visa is valid for much longer, such as a two-year, five-year or ten-year multi-entry visa. The visitor is permitted to stay in the UK for a maximum of six months from the date of any given entry (or up to the expiry date on the visa, whichever is soonest).
