How seriously should I take size and weight limits of hand luggage?
I'm interested in hearing anecdotal evidence from a specific airline and airport.
Flying KLM
AMS Schiphol ---> JFK NYC
Is there any precedent of KLM weighing carry-on bags at Schiphol? I am planning to put my textbooks in my backpack to decrease the weight of my checked luggage to its acceptable limit.

How strict is KLM with carry-on weight?
They are never that strict unless it is obviously over size. By the way there is an air travel forum for questions like this as it has very little to do with Amsterdam/NL apart from you are flying here. 3. Re: How strict are KLM on carry on baggage size?Does KLM weight hand luggage?
12 kg (26 lbs) is the total allowable weight for the two items. The KLM baggage allowance for Business Class passengers is 2 items of hand luggage, each measuring no more than 55 x 35 x 25 cm (or 21.5 x 13.5 x 10 in), plus one smaller item no larger than 40 x 30 x 15 cm (or 16 x 12 x 6 in).Does carry-on luggage get weighed?
If you have both checked and carry on luggage, usually both are going to be weighed at the check-in/luggage drop. If you only have a carry on and check-in online you have small chances to have your luggage weighed, however it might not be true if you apparently struggle with it.Can we carry more than 7kg in cabin baggage?
As per the rule, each passenger is allowed one cabin bag (measuring about 25x35x55cm depending on the aircraft) weighing up to 7kg, besides a personal item like purse or laptop bag. However, officials say that passengers have a tendency to carry multiple baggages.Sources: Stack Exchange - This article follows the attribution requirements of Stack Exchange and is licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.
