Are special meals at no extra charge on KLM intercontinental flights possible?

I recently booked an Europe-Canada itinerary from KLM. To my surprise, I cannot choose special meals (vegetarian or religious) from the website after booking; although I could pay for e.g. a "Veggie Menu" or "Indonesian Menu". Is this normal? I have not flown on KLM since Covid so I do not know if the restriction is due to Covid or not.
I will call them during the week when I have time to wait, but I was wondering if anyone has done this recently.
