I am an Indian. Can i go out from airport during my 20+ hours layover in London and visit places? [duplicate] - Clear Glass Window Lot during Golden Hour

I am an Indian working in Thailand. I have to visit Spain in Feb 2017 and on the way, I may have a layover of around 15- 24+ hours in London. Am I allowed to pass emigration and go out in city to visit places or do I need a Transit visa for my visit.

Best Answer

If you go through the UK's "check if you need a visa" tool you will find that you need a visa whether or not you plan to leave the airport, unless you meet one of the exceptions (such as if you hold a long-term "category D" visa for Spain, not an ordinary "category C" short-term visit visa).

To leave the airport (and pass through UK immigration), you'll need a Visitor in Transit visa. If you do not need or want to pass through UK immigration (even to recheck luggage because you have booked two separate tickets), you can apply for a Direct Airside Transit Visa.

Can I leave the airport in London during a layover?

Yes, you can leave the airport during a layover, provided your passport allows you visa-free entry to the country you're in and you have enough time between flights.

What do you do if you have a 20 hour layover?

Allow an hour until you get out of the airport, especially if you have to claim your bags. Allow another hour to get into the city, even if you take the train. You will also want to drop your bags at a hotel (even if you only have carryons.) This will eat up the better part of another hour.

What can I do on a 20 hour layover in London?

Go straight to your convenient hotel near Westminster Bridge (eg the County Hall area); checkin; dump your luggage; walk around the nearby sights; get an evening cruise to Tower Bridge, eating on the boat if you want. Some cruises combine the boat with the London Eye.

Can I get out of airport during layover Heathrow?

Re: Can I leave the LHR airport during a layover? Yes you can, you should allow up to 90 minutes to get landside and then aim to be back at the airport with at least an hour to spare as there is a cut off time to clear outbound security.
