Exit and re-enter Schengen area if country that issued the visa is the final destination

Exit and re-enter Schengen area if country that issued the visa is the final destination - Drone view of peaceful valley covered with trees and small houses in mountainous area in daytime

I have a trip planned in February to Paris, Amsterdam, Morocco, and then Barcelona, in that order (so I enter through France, leave Schengen area to Morocco, then re-enter in Spain).

I got a Schengen visa through the Spanish consulate (technically, through BLS), but they only gave me a one-entry visa. They said that because it was issued by the Spanish consulate (Spain is where I'm going to stay the most days), I would be able to re-enter.

I would rather not have to find out at the Barcelona airport that they were mistaken, and this seems to be contrary to everything I've been reading. Can someone verify that this is the case? Or should I insist on them giving me a 2-entry visa?

Thanks!

Can I leaving Schengen area and returning?

Once you leave, you cannot return to Spain (or Schengen) without a visa until a further 90 days have gone by. For example, if you have spent 90 days in total in Spain and leave on June 29th, you cannot go back without a visa until at least September 28th.

Do I have to enter the country that issued my Schengen visa?

It does not need to be the country that issued you with a Schengen Visa, as you must apply with the nation where you are planning to spend the majority of your stay in the Schengen Area.

Can I enter and or exit the Schengen area visa a country other than the one for which I have a visa?

According to the Schengen rules, the Schengen visa is generally valid for all the countries in the Schengen area. Please note, however, that you always have to apply at the consulate of the country which is your primary destination (see FAQ no 5).

What does one entry Schengen visa mean?

Schengen visas may allow for a single-entry or multiple entries. With a single-entry visa you can enter the Schengen area only once. This is indicated on the visa sticker by "01". With a visa allowing for two or multiple entries you may enter twice or several times during the validity of the visa.
