Duration of Schengen visa while travelling to non Schengen areas which allow Schengen visa - Passport on Top of a Planner

I'm planning to travel to the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Turkey. I'll be in Netherlands for 4 days, Bulgaria for 4 and Turkey for 2. I'm applying for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands. Considering that Bulgaria and Turkey are not in the Schengen Area (but accept Schengen Visas for entry), will the duration of the visa be determined by only the Netherlands leg of the trip? Ideally I would want the visa to be valid for at least 10 days to include the entire trip.

Please also note that according to the following:

  1. Holders of valid common Schengen visas who have exhausted the permitted number of entries and duration of stay on their common Schengen visas will only be allowed to enter Bulgaria or the purpose of return transit.

in your case you would have to either get a multiple-entry visa, or alter your itinerary as Netherlands - Turkey - Bulgaria - return (which makes Bulgaria your return transit country). Latter would be more tricky and require more explanation to your airline; success is not guaranteed.
