Cheapest way with public transport to travel to Ponza from Rome and back in one day? - Unrecognizable woman riding train and looking out window

There seem to be a variety of ways to get to Ponza from Rome. What is the cheapest option (so I don't care much about travel time) using public transport?

Doing research myself I am consistently ending up on Italian-only ferry sites which I have been trying to decode using Google translate, but I figured this might actually be common knowledge for Italian people, so am asking here.

My current guess would be that the cheapest option is going to Formia and taking the Laziomar ferry from there.

Is Ponza worth visiting?

Ponza is a stunningly beautiful island, almost like Capri, but it's expensive and (esp. in summer) very touristy. Public transport does not work well and taxi's are madly expensive, but taking your car isn't a wise option;) I'd also suggest to stay away from the Porto area.

How do I access Ponza?

The island of Ponza can be easily reached by ferry (which allows the boarding of cars) or, more quickly, by hydrofoil (passengers only). The port of Anzio is connected to the island of Ponza by the company LAZIOMAR and the VETOR hydrofoil line. Both companies carry out a seasonal service, active during summer only.

How far is Rome from Ponza?

The distance between Ponza and Rome is 119 km.
