I’m a Polish national working remotely as a freelancer for a US company. Would I be in violation of eTA rules if I continued working during my visit to Canada? Do I need to declare it? (Assume that my trip will take place after all COVID-related restrictions are lifted)

Can I work remotely in Canada on an eTA?

Those wishing to work in Canada must obtain the relevant work visa or a business eTA. You cannot work in Canada on the eTA unless you have an additional work visa or an eTA for business purposes.

Can I work on a Canadian eTA?

Manual or physical work is only permitted if you are going to work in Canada at a university or at management level, when staying on an eTA Canada. However, this is subject to an additional requirement: this is only permitted once per six months for a maximum of 15 consecutive days.

Can I get a work permit on an eTA?

If you applied for a Work Permit, you will always receive a visa or an eTA at the same time. In that case, you do not have to submit a separate application for a visa or an eTA and pay additional costs for this. It is important that you meet all the requirements of the eTA when travelling to Canada.

Who is exempt from an eTA?

U.S. citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement. U.S. citizens can enter Canada on their valid U.S. passport, whether they are travelling by air, land, or sea. Lawful permanent residents of the United States, or Green Card holders, are visa-exempt regardless of their country of citizenship.
