Can planes fly in 3 inches of snow?

As we've discussed above, snow, ice, and bad weather do not hinder a flight. It remains safe to fly as long as precautious and pilot training are both up to date.

Will planes take off in the snow?

Commercial planes usually fly fine under snowfall due to flying at higher altitudes, as well as because of how large and well-equipped they are, making it rare for snowfall to cause flight cancelations. Smaller planes that fly at lower altitudes and are not as well-equipped, however, will struggle to fly in the snow.

How much snow does it take to affect flights?

The Federal Aviation Administration requires every airport that receives more than 6 inches of snow a year to create a snow and ice control plan and a committee to create guidelines for winter operations.
