Why aren't there any big buildings on coastal regions [closed] - Aerial View of City Near Body of Water

While this isn't exactly travel-related, I have seen that big buildings are not built on coastal regions i.e. regions next to the beach. Is this because of the danger of floods, the kind of soil and its ability to hold big buildings or something else altogether. Any ideas ?

Two examples - Houtbay in South Africa and the whole of Konkan Coast of India (several hundred kilometres of land) all of which are in small one floor thatched roof places but go to the interiors (as in land) and you will see big buildings.

What are the problems in coastal areas?

The threats to coastal communities include extreme natural events such as hurricanes, coastal storms, tsunamis, and landslides, as well as longer-term risks of coastal erosion and sea level rise. Floods are the most frequent natural disaster; one in three Federal disaster declarations is related to flooding.

Why do people live close to coast?

Because of the economic benefits that accrue from access to ocean navigation, coastal fisheries, tourism and recreation, human settlements are often more concentrated in the coastal zone than elsewhere. Presently about 40% of the world's population lives within 100 kilometers of the coast.

Why are there tall buildings in the city Centre?

With the rise in urbanisation, tall buildings provide a variety of options for housing and offices, allowing a city to grow without expanding its boundaries or infringing green space or farmland.

What are the major impacts in the development of coastal area?

Coastal development impacts may be direct such as land filling, dredging, and coral and sand mining for construction, or indirect, such as increased runoff of sediment and pollutants (Reefresilience, 2016).
