What options are there for an 11-hour layover in Bangkok? [closed] - Assorted Map Pieces

On a flight from Frankfurt to Sydney (in a few weeks) via Bangkok, my layover in BKK (Suvarnabhumi) was changed from 90m to 11 hours... What is there for me to do, so time passes a bit more quickly? The boundary conditions are:

  • I'm a German transit passenger without a visa for Thailand (at the moment)
  • Scheduled arrival in BKK is 6:25 am, departure 17:50
  • My physiological clock at arrival will be 1am.
  • I can't sleep anywhere other than in a proper bed. Otherwise it's dozing a few moments, when I'm lucky.
  • Willing to pay for lounge or other things.
  • Legs are ok. I jog a marathon if you press me.
  • I like Thai/Asian food in general.
  • I'm a science/aerospace nerd.

E.g. Singapore Changi has this cactus garden which I enjoyed in the past. Recommendations appreciated!

Can I leave the airport during a layover in Bangkok?

In line with Thailand Government regulations, if you're transiting between international flights in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, your itinerary must be booked on the same ticket and you must not leave the transiting area and enter Thailand.

Can you leave the airport during a 12 hour layover?

Yes, you can leave the airport during a layover, provided your passport allows you visa-free entry to the country you're in and you have enough time between flights. In fact, some people intentionally book flights with longer layovers (which are often cheaper) so they get to see a new city.

Can I leave the airport if I have a long layover?

Yes, you can leave the airport during domestic layovers. For instance, if you're a US citizen and have a layover within the country, it is legal and safe to leave the airport. Be aware that you'll probably be getting two boarding passes if the domestic layover is more than an hour.

How close is too close for a layover?

In most cases, a 30-minute layover for domestic flights and an hour for international flights is considered a minimum, or short, layover.
