With a quick look I didn't find a good definition in the IRCTC website FAQ, but a web search found this explanation:

  • I-Ticket - Delivered to the customer at his desired address through courier.
  • E-ticket - The user can take a printout of the Electronic Registration Slip (ERS)

IRCTC I-ticket- refers to a Railway reservation booked on this website for the consummation of which a printed Railway ticket on standard Stationery is dispatched by IRCTC to the Customer through the courier, which constitute the authority to travel on trains.

What is the full form of I ticket?

i-ticket means ticket booked via internet but you wanted the ticket to be printed in the normal ticket form and couriered to your address.

How can I convert my e-ticket to I ticket?

The E-Tickets CANNOT be converted into I-Tickets. Since the Passenger, whose ID has been provided at the time of booking the ticket, the entire ticket would automatically get cancelled.

Can I travel without printout of I ticket?
