The website states that the Neuschwanstein Castle is closed on December 31st. Will the view points be closed as well? I do not wish to have a guided tour of the inside part of the castle. I would only like to view the castle from certain view points, eg. Marienbrücke.

Can you visit Neuschwanstein Castle in December?

Neuschwanstein Castle Guided tours: daily from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Guided tours: daily from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Closing days: December 24th, December 25th, December 31st and January 1st.

Can you walk around Neuschwanstein Castle without a ticket?

If you want to enter Neuschwanstein and/or Hohenschwangau, you are required to book a guided tour; you cannot enter the castles on your own, although you can view both from the outside without purchasing the tour tickets. You can purchase tour tickets in advance online, or at the ticket center on the day of your visit.

Why is Neuschwanstein Castle closed?

It was a strong cold winter with snow even in May 2021. There is a high risk for rockslide, the reason the gorge is still closed. The bridge is under construction and also not accessible for at least until fall 2022 because of essential restoration works.

Is it worth entering Neuschwanstein Castle?

Castle Neuschwanstein is definitely an attraction. But if you don't book the tour in advance (on web), it is most likely that you will wait for ticket for 1 hour, for a tour that will start in 4 hours. All in total if not well prepared you can spend all day for the castle. The visit is very short (30min).
