I am a Catholic priest with appointment as ass't pastor at American Church in Rome. Visa papers in order I hope with letter from Vatican Secretary of State and American pastor in Rome with whom I'll be working. Stay is about 11 months. Please help me. Thank you. Bernard J. Campbell

  • From the tag I guess you are an US citizen. (Using the tag that way is wrong, by the way, the program is for visitors to the US.)
  • As an US citizen, you would need a long-stay visa to visit Italy for more than 90 days out of every 180 days. The Vatican is de facto treated as part of the Schengen territory.
  • You might go to the Vatican visa-free and then stay on Vatican territory after your free days run out, but documenting that would be difficult. There could be problems on departure if your claims that you did not overstay on Italian territory are not believed.

Does Italy require quarantine on arrival?

Starting from June 1, 2022, travelers to Italy will no longer be required to show the Green pass (i.e. Anti-COVID 19 vaccination certificate or recovery certificate, or a negative swab test) to enter Italy and are not subject to quarantine upon arrival to Italy if they do not possess the Green pass.

Travellers from non-European countries can now enter Italy for travel purposes under facilitated rules as the pre-entry testing requirement, and the non-essential travel ban has been abolished.

From June 1, everyone can enter Italy. Arrivals no longer have to show vaccination status, meaning that the quarantine requirement for the unvaccinated no longer exists.

How long does it take to go through customs in Rome?

Once you're there, passport control can take anything from thirty to around ninety minutes. Fiumicino is often under-staffed and you may well find only two or three immigration booths open to deal with hundreds of passengers.
