Public transport connections to San Francisco after Caltrain stops running

Let's say I'm in Mountain View (next to the Caltrain station) and it's 11:00 pm. Or, equivalently, in Palo Alto or Menlo Park, and it's a little past 11.
Is there any way to get to central San Francisco using public transport late in the night? Or is a taxi or getting a ride from someone your only option?
(It looks like the last Caltrain leaves at 10:49 pm from Mountain View.)

What public transportation is running in San Francisco?
Muni is San Francisco's bus and metro system that runs throughout the city, operating buses, trains, cable cars and the F-line heritage streetcar. Muni buses remain above ground and on streets while Muni Metro runs on rails and sometimes go underground.Does BART replace Caltrain?
The quick answer is no. BART requires separate tracks and infrastructure (because it runs on non-standard gauge tracks). To replace Caltrain with BART, all the Caltrain infrastructure would have to be removed and rail service would have to be shut down rail service for years during the construction period. Is Caltrain the same as BART?
The BART connects directly with the terminal. Ride time into downtown San Francisco is about 30 minutes along the yellow line and will cost adults $8.35 one way. The Caltrain does connect directly with the terminal, but it can be accessed by taking the BART to the Millbrae station. What is the best way to travel in San Francisco?
The best ways to get around San Francisco are on foot and by using public transportation. Most of the popular attractions are within walking distance of the city center, and the large municipal transportation system (called the Muni) operates bus and streetcar lines, leaving little need for your own set of wheels.SFO Public Transportation
