Do you have to go through security twice on connecting flights?

For most domestic layovers, you won't have to go through security again. However, some airports have separate security checkpoints for each terminal, so if you land in one terminal and your next flight is in another, you would have to go through security again.

Can you leave SFO airport during layover?

The thought of dragging around your carry-on luggage in a new city is enough to discourage one from leaving the airport during a layover, but that doesn't have to be the case at SFO. The Airport Travel Agency located in the pre-security area of the airport can free you up of any burdensome luggage for a fee, of course.

Do I need to go through security for a connecting flight at SFO?

Connecting Flights Please note connecting passengers exit into the airport's public area and are required to clear security prior to boarding their next flight.

Do you go through customs for a layover?

For international layover flights, you will normally have to go through customs and immigration at the connecting airport. For flights with a layover in Canada or the USA, you will need to go through immigration and fill out the necessary customs paperwork even if you are not staying in the country.
