What's the difference between a transfer pass and a boarding pass?

What's the difference between a transfer pass and a boarding pass? - Low angle of successful female executive manager in classy style sitting at table with laptop in contemporary workplace and passing documents to colleague

Looking back at some past flight tickets, I see for a trip with 1 layover, I was given a boarding pass for the first leg, and a transfer pass for the second leg. The pass type was indicated on the boarding and transfer passes. Both the boarding and the transfer passes mention the seat number as well as the boarding time.

What's the difference between a transfer pass and a boarding pass? E.g., does a transfer pass not allow me to leave/re-enter the airport during the layover?

Example of transfer and boarding passes:

The transfer pass looks the same as the boarding pass, the only difference being that it says transfer pass at the top right corner instead of boarding pass.

More information: single ticket, transit pass issued at the departure airport at the same time as the boarding pass, didn't pass immigration during layover, no visa required at layover. leave the airport" = exit the airport's secure area

What does transfer mean for flights?

Passengers who have a stopover of under 24 hours anywhere between the starting point and final destination of their journey and then board a connecting flight with the same or a different airline are referred to as transfer passengers.

Is transfer same as transit?

Transit means people on the same flight/plane/airline. For example when a plane lands to refuel. Transfer means people switching flight/plane airline.

Is my boarding pass the same as connecting flight?

You'll probably get all boarding passes at once when you check in for your first flight, whether you check in online, on your smartphone, or at the airport. For some international itineraries though, the airline will direct you to get your second boarding pass on your layover.

Do I need another boarding pass for layover?

You might only receive your first boarding pass when you check-in for the first time. If so, then you will have to find the correct ticket counter at the layover airport and get your second boarding pass for the new flight.
