LAX connection new check in and security

I will be traveling on September 26th from Hawaii to Atlanta. I am not a US citizen but I hold a valid ESTA. My travel agency has booked these flights:

HONOLULU, HI (DANIEL K INOUYE INTL), TERMINAL 1   | 25 SEP 22:10
LOS ANGELES, CA (LOS ANGELES INTL), TERMINAL 5    | 26 SEP 06:30

LOS ANGELES, CA (LOS ANGELES INTL), TERMINAL 2     | 26 SEP 09:00
ATLANTA, GA (HARTSFIELD-JACKSON INT), TERMINAL S   | 26 SEP 16:28

The problem is that the flight from LAX to ATL has a different ticket number, so I have been told that I will need to get my luggage and check in with Delta.

I think (but am not sure) that, for that reason, I will have to go through security, as if I ended the trip in Los Angeles. I have been informed that, depending on the day, this could take a while.

I will also need to change from one terminal to another terminal (not sure which numbers).

Do I need to pass security control and customs in LAX?
Is 2 hours 30 minutes enough time to do it?

Since I'll already be in the USA (Hawaii), is there an easier control for foreigners (I'm European)?

Do I have to go through security again for connecting flight at LAX?

There are no physical airside connections between any of the other terminals. Inter-terminal connections between terminals 1, 2, and 3, and between them and the other terminals, require passengers to exit security, then walk or use a shuttle-bus to get to the other terminal, then re-clear security.

How much time should I allow between connecting flights at LAX?

As a general rule, 60 to 90 minutes should be enough for a transfer between domestic flights that doesn't require leaving security. Two hours is more reasonable for domestic transfers that require leaving security and rechecking, and three hours is a good idea if arriving from another country.
