ITA Matrix search for London-Minsk flights with first leg on BA only returning part of expected results

I'm trying to look at options for LHR, LGW or LCY to MSQ with a first leg on BA (so I can use airmiles for that leg). Through a random manual search, for example, I know I could get a BA flight to Warsaw, followed by a Belavia flight to Minsk.

However when I run my search using dep: LHR,LGW,LCY, dest: MSQ and routing codes: BA+ F* (for outbound) / F* BA+ (for inbound), I get a few options (e.g. connections through Frankfurt with an onward flight on Lufthansa) but not the Belavia one. Am I missing something obvious? I have checked and the various airlines I'm interested in are indeed included in the search engine, and e.g. the WAW-MSQ flight comes up when I search for it directly.

Thanks!

British Airways do not offer a codeshare with Belavia (https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/partners-and-alliances). It is not possible to book a flight on one ticket with one British Airways leg (LON-WAW) then a Belavia leg (WAW-MSQ). You would need to book these legs as two separate bookings. This is likely to be why it is not showing on ITA matrix. Lufthansa fly to all of these cities hence why they are able to offer you one ticket and why it shows on ITA Matrix.

If you are interested in reedeming Avios (British Airways frequency flyer "currency", effectively their air miles scheme). You need to ensure there is reward flight availability is available on the exact flight you want. You can check this by signing into your BA account. Also note there would be taxes on top of the Avios you would spend on the LON-WAW leg, thus you may not be saving much. But of course that depends on the dates/times you are interested in.

How do you use matrix flights?

ITA Matrix Tutorial

  • What is a flight matrix?

ITA Matrix is an all-in-one flight search engine that analyzes the flight routes and prices for most airlines. The platform was created by several MIT scientists in 1996 and was acquired by Google in 2010.

    How does Matrix ITA work?

How does the ITA Software Matrix work? The software is a search tool that is able to pull results from most airlines to help you find the lowest fare. It does this by allowing you to search a multitude of parameters including desired cities, connections, flexible dates, and more.

    Is ita matrix legit?

ITA Matrix, along with other search engines, are a good tool for judging the cost of fares on different routes. That is what I use them for, but always go to the airline sites to book. Even on airline sites fares can change in the blink of an eye as fare buckets get sold out.
