I want to intentionally miss a flight and continue my itinerary

I want to intentionally miss a flight and continue my itinerary - Flight Schedule Screen Turned on

I have the following flight itinerary:

Outbound

  1. Stuttgart Amsterdam (KLM)
  2. Amsterdam Quito (KLM)

Return

  1. Quito Lima (LAN)
  2. Lima Amsterdam (KLM)
  3. Amsterdam Stuttgart (KLM)

I'm thinking about skipping the Stuttgart - Amsterdam flight, go to Amsterdam by train, spend a weekend there, party hard, sleep well, go to the airport and continue my trip.

  • Is anyone allowed to do that?
  • Will the Airline deny my boarding in Amsterdam?
  • Or will the airline (KLM) kindly modify my flight route for an economic extra fee?

Can you purposely miss your flight?

Can I get charged for missing a flight? Most airlines only charge a fee for missing a flight if the passenger seems to have a habit of doing it purposely, commonly known as skiplagging, in which a passenger books a ticket with no intention of taking the secondary legs of a trip in order to secure a cheaper fare.

What happens if I purposely miss a flight?

If you purposely miss a flight then your ticket will be reallocated to someone on hold. You will lose the value of your ticket. The only reason I can think of that someone might miss a flight on purpose is that it's sometimes it's cheaper to book a muli-leg flight and travel one way or leg.

Can I skip part of my flight itinerary?

While not illegal, intentionally skipping segments on an itinerary does almost always violates airlines' contracts of carriage. For example, here's what American's contract of carriage says regarding this: Reservations made to exploit or circumvent fare and ticket rules are strictly prohibited.

Is it better to cancel or miss a flight?

Canceling a ticket is more profitable if the cancellations are made within 24 hours of the booking. Hence, if you wish to cancel them, it is advisable to make up your mind within 24 hours of making reservations. Otherwise, there is not much difference in airlines' policy regarding cancellations and no-shows.
