I didn't put an address in ESTA form because I was not sure I was going to stay there

In planning a trip to the US, I booked a "temporary" place, with the idea in mind that I might cancel it later to get a better place.

When applying for the ESTA, I put UNKOWN in the appropriate fields for Point of Contact as I didn't want to put a statement that might became false in the future.

I know that I can update the address on my Esta application, but I was wondering if not doing that (since I've read multiple times that it is not required) would be a problem at the immigration control, given the following scenario:

Immigration asks me where I am going to stay
I show a receipt of my booking
They see that my booking was made prior to the ESTA application and that I put unknown even if I knew where I was going to stay

I am an Italian citizen.

What happens if you make a mistake on your ESTA application?

You will need to either submit a new application with the corrected fields, or, if you made a mistake on the eligibility questions two through nine, you can contact the ESTA team to make change and fix a mistake on your ESTA application.

Do I need address for ESTA?

In the ESTA form, you are also asked for the address of your accomodation, a point of contact in the USA and an emergency contact in or outside of the United States. If you do not have all of these at the time of application, then you do not need to fill them in.

What reasons would an ESTA be denied?

Do I need to update address on ESTA?

You do not need to update anything within the 2 years that your ESTA is valid. Your accommodation details are NOT needed at all. You can leave the ESTA unchanged - the airline will collect the relevant API including your address in the USA prior to your next flight.
