Lake Balaton has one of the cleanest bodies of water in Europe. Its water is excellent as it is also replaced every two years. The lake is fed by the river Zala, and the excess water flows into the Danube through the Si\xf3 canal. The muddy soil of Lake Balaton is considered by many to be medicinal.

The Scenery Is Spectacular Lake Balaton is almost 50 miles long and 10 miles wide at its widest point. It's a freshwater lake, but it's a striking milky green color because of the algae that grows in the shallow waters.

Can you swim across Lake Balaton?

I did the Lake Balaton Cross Swim. That's a 5.2 km swim across the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe. It was so rewarding and so much fun. The organisers estimate that some 7700 people did the swim in the glorious sunshine.
