ESTA: Do I need to tell all my trip itinerary?

I'm an Italian citizen and I'm planning to visit the USA for a trip of 2 weeks, driving a car from LA to San Francisco.

Reading the ESTA declaration, I found a part where I need to declare Information of a person to contact in USA, with name, address, city and so on.

Assuming that I'm more interested on an "on the road" trip, which means I'll want to stop somewhere casually and take a room when I'm tired of driving/visiting.

How can I sincerely answer these questions without the risk of having my ESTA revoked?

Do I need to update ESTA for each trip?

There is no need whatsoever to update your ESTA each time you go to the USA within the two year period it lasts for. It even says this on the application form. The address of your new accommodation will be collected in the Advance Passenger Information everyone has to supply to the airline before travel to the USA.

Can an ESTA be used for multiple trips?

How long is a travel authorization via ESTA valid? Each approved ESTA application generally is valid for two years and allows for multiple visits to the United States within that period without having to apply for another ESTA approval.
