Does Lufthansa allow you to choose seats for free during checking-in online?
When I booked my flight with Lufthansa, an early seat reservation was available for an extra fee. But I did not want to pay extra so I just skipped this step.
Is it possible for me to check-in online 24h before the departure ? Do I need to pay if I want to select my seat during online checking-in or is it free of charge?
I travelled with other airlines and it was possible to online check-in 24h before departure without additional fee.

Yes, however it's when the online check in opens which is currently 23hrs before your flight schedule. This the only way (except having FTL status or higher) you can reserve a seat for FREE on Lufthansa flights. Free seat assignments will be given after check-in. Of course, if you purchase a standard Economy ticket, you'll be able to choose standard seats for free during booking.How much does it cost to choose a seat on Lufthansa?
Doing a little research it appears that Lufthansa has been doing this for 4 - 5 years. Also, according to their website, your $35 per seat per flight (an additional $140 for us) does not guarantee you a specific seat.How to – Online Check-in | Lufthansa

I booked a ticket through united on Lufthansa flight. I went to Lufthansa website and changed the seat. I got exit row seat on both the flights without any charges
