I was planning on going on a trip with a friend and booked a room in the hotel under the assumption that we'd be sharing the room. But now it looks like I won't be able to go on the trip.

Can they still use my room reservation even though it's in my name and not their name?

Can I give my hotel reservation to someone else?

The answer is a sweet YES. As long as you have a confirmed reservation, you will be able to change the guest name to another person's, such as your friend's or colleague's.

Can I book a room in my name for someone else?

Yes you can. When you make the reservation, make sure that they are listed as the other party. If you never show up, they will probably make the other person produce their credit card to settle the charges though.
