We have an 8h layover in Amsterdam starting at about 1am this Monday (Sunday night). We want to explore, but we're not sure if anything will be open, or if we'll just end up wandering the streets with a bunch of drunks. From a small amount of research, it looks like most coffee shops close around 1am.
I'd also take any advice on traveling from the airport to the city. I heard there is a train that runs from the city to the airport. Is that the best bet?

These factors may cut into your layover time. So considering all of this if you are left with 5 hours or more you can definitely leave the Amsterdam Airport. If you have 4 hours, you can leave but you will not be able to see as much. Under 4 hours I would not recommend leaving the airport, unfortunately. What can you do on a layover in Amsterdam?
