Data in the VIS system which includes fingerprints is stored for five years. This is accessible to all Schengen countries. Non-Schengen countries have no access to VIS information.

Does UK still have access to Eurodac?

As of 1 January 2021, the UK has lost access to EURODAC. To claim asylum in the UK, a person must now be in the country as there is no asylum visa. It's not allowed to apply from outside the country either. A person would then have to enter the Kingdom either for tourism, studies or illegally.

Which countries use Eurodac?

Eurodac is an EU database that stores the fingerprints of international protection applicants or people who have crossed a border illegally. It is used by the countries of the EU and also Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Switzerland.

Do EU countries share immigration information?

All Schengen countries share visa information through VIS. Denmark has also chosen to implement VIS. The central VIS system is linked to national systems, allowing Schengen states to exchange data. Sharing information regarding application decisions is particularly useful for preventing 'visa shopping'.

What is sis in Europe?

The Schengen Information System (SIS) is the most widely used and largest information sharing system for security and border management in Europe. The main purpose of SIS is to make Europe safer.
