We are bunch of friends from Hyderabad, planning to visit Indore to meet a friend. We are also planning to visit Patalpani, a famous picnic spot. Just wondering after watching these news reports about an accident year ago whether it's safe to visit that place.

That place is risky, online reporting has started very recently. I've lived close to that place; it is really not advisable from a safety perspective.

Patalpani is a picnic spot near a waterfall, and police restricts entry often. People accidentally drown in the river, or just fall from a height.

What for Patalpani of India is famous?

Patalpani is known for the beautiful Patalpani waterfall with a height of approximately 300 feet situated on the Indore \u2013 Khandwa train route. Legend has it that the depth of the water is unknown and it goes as deep as the underground world (patal). This place is also a famous trekking spot.

Why Patalpani is called Patalpani?

According to folklore, the pit (kund) at the bottom of the falls goes as deep as patal (the underworld in Indian mythology). Therefore, the falls are called Patal-pani, pani being the Hindi word for water.

The Patalpani Waterfall is located in Mhow Tehsil of Indore district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The waterfall is approximately 300 feet high.
