Are train tickets time specific?

Anytime Single tickets are valid for any train on the date written on your ticket. If you've booked an Anytime Return ticket, then you can take your outbound journey at any time, up to five days after the date written on your ticket.

If you want to use a different train operator or a different route you would have to get the ticket endorsed at the ticket office. If the delay is their fault they would revalidate the ticket for a different train and / or route.
