What differences in vehicle laws are there for crossing into Canada from the US with a travel trailer? - Historical train on railway in outdoor museum

We're planning a summer trip this year into Canada. I live in Michigan, but we're heading west to Minnesota, and heading north to Winnipeg and then heading back east. We plan to drive our SUV/travel trailer. We're good on ID requirements, that's easy enough. What I want to know is specifically:

How do I ease the border crossing with the travel trailer? Are there any safety equipment rules (along the lines of tire chains required in winter, or similar) that I need to comply with which I may not know about?

Kids are all going to be in appropriate car seats for US, are there any changes for Canada?

I fully expect to have to vacate our vehicle and have uniformed personnel search it. Any tips on how to expedite the pre-screening questions, things not to have aboard, etc? I know fresh fruits/vegetables are out. Is any food item going to be confiscated?
