Use same US ESTA for different purposes?

Use same US ESTA for different purposes? - Top view of different types and colors American dollars placed together on each other

I have an approved ESTA for tourism which and I will use to travel to the US with my wife for our honeymoon.

For an academic conference, I'm required to travel to the US one month later. This is within the validity period of the ESTA but clearly is business rather than tourism. Do I require a separate ESTA (or visa) for this business trip?

Does ESTA have to be valid for entire stay?

Your ESTA authorisation needs to be valid for when you enter the U.S. and will allow you to stay within U.S. territory for up to 90 days from when you land. Therefore, it is okay if your ESTA does not remain not valid throughout your stay in the United States as long as you do not overstay the limit of 90 days.
