Turkey tourist e-visa with expired H-1B but valid i-797A

Turkey tourist e-visa with expired H-1B but valid i-797A - A Red Tram on the Street

I am an Indian national living in the US. My H-1B (1st term) expired in August 2016. I have an I-797A (H-1B visa extension document) valid until July 2019. I went to the Turkish Consulate in Boston to get a visa sticker but they said I am still eligible for an e-visa and was told to show my I-797A upon arrival. Has anyone traveled to Turkey with an I-797A as a supporting document?

My itinerary is Boston to Istanbul (5 day stay), on to India and return to Boston.

The Turkey e-visa is typically valid for 180 days after arrival (the validity will also depend on your current nationality.)

What happens if you overstay your Turkish visa?

If you refuse to pay or cannot at that time, you will be banned from entering Turkey for up to 5 years. The shortest ban is 3 months for overstays of up to 90 days, 6 months for exceeding your stay by 3 to 6 months, and so on.

When one's H-1B status expires, the H-1B worker must either leave the United States, obtain an extension, or apply for a different status. If the worker simply stays in the U.S. past the expiration of the H-1B status, the worker loses legal status in the U.S. and can be removed (deported).
