According to the CBP, a minor traveling without their parents should have a notarized letter showing parental consent, on top of the usual documentation (i.e., passport / green card).

However, I cannot find any information when the other two special clauses are present:

  • What if the child is a green card holder. Does this change anything to the process?

  • What if the accompanying adult is not a US citizen? The accompanying adult (their grand-parent) will be on a ESTA when re-entering the country. Does this calls for additional documentation?

My child would be traveling outside of the US with this grand-parent, and returning with them.
