Itinerary changed and new airline introduced

Itinerary changed and new airline introduced - Boyfriend and girlfriend in casual wear helping each other with unpacking car while moving in together on sunny summer day

I had a direct flight from Mumbai, India to Newark, USA on United, however that was cancelled because of winter storm jonas and now they have changed my itinerary and put me on different flights. Now I fly from Mumbai to London on Jet Airways as 9W 120 and then from London to Newark on United. So the first leg is not a codeshare flight... so my question is this... do I check in with jet airways or united in Mumbai airport when I depart? and will my baggage go all the way to Newark, or do I have to collect it in London, and check in again?

Jet airways, India and United, USA are partner airlines.

Anyone have any experience with a similar situation? Thanks for any help.

Can I get a refund if the airline changes my itinerary?

Once you've decided on a new flight, call the airline to get your itinerary switched. If the change is significant enough and there are no other flights that work with your schedule, you do have the option to request a cash refund (even with a normally non-refundable basic economy fare).

What happens if my flight schedule changes?

If you notice that your trip has been hit with a major schedule change, research the individual airline's policy to see if it counts as \u201csignificant\u201d enough for a refund. Then, you can call to cancel the itinerary or do so online (with some airlines).

Why do airline initiated schedules change?

Airlines can make changes to their flight times and routes for a variety of reasons. Minor changes might occur because the airline has switched the aircraft used for that flight to a newer or faster plane. A major change might occur if the airline has added or removed flights to their schedules.

What does it mean to change itinerary?

A schedule change is any modification to your flight's schedule prior to the date of departure. Due to the operational needs of each airline they often make changes to the flights they operate. These changes can range from a one minute delay all the way up to a completely canceled flight.
