If I have an ESTA and I apply for visa and the visa is denied, is my ESTA still valid?

You must reapply for an ESTA. The DHS's answer to the question "When do I need to reapply for an ESTA?" states

When do I need to reapply for an ESTA?

A new travel authorization may be required in any of the following circumstances:

...

  • The circumstances underlying the traveler's previous responses to any of the ESTA application questions requiring a "yes" or "no" response have changed.

One of the eligibility questions being:

Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa you applied for with your current or previous passport, or have you ever been refused admission to the United States or withdrawn your application for admission at a U.S. port of entry?

Can I use the same ESTA twice?

An ESTA can be used for multiple entries into the United States. Should an individual find themselves in a situation where they wish to visit the United States repeatedly beyond the 90 days permitted by ESTA, then a B-1 Business Visa or B-2 Tourist Visa may be a more suitable alternative.

Can I reapply if my ESTA is denied?

If an ESTA is denied and the travelers circumstances have not changed, a new application will also be denied. If an ESTA is denied and the travelers circumstances have changed, a new application can be submitted, but there are no guarantees the application will be approved.

How many times can you reapply for ESTA?

You may apply for a new ESTA before or after a previous one has expired. There are no restrictions on the number of times you can obtain a new ESTA authorization which is valid for two years from the date of issue. If you wanted to, you even could apply for a new ESTA again the day after obtaining the previous one.
