Check-in and Boarding at the Gate (the procedure for visa requirements)

Check-in and Boarding at the Gate (the procedure for visa requirements) - Woman diagnosing vision on refractor testing device during eye examination in modern ophthalmology clinic

I have noticed that for a given flight, there are two checks of the passport and visa documents, once at the check-in counter and then at the boarding gate. Why is such procedure being followed?

I noticed that airlines, twice, do check the details of the visa (validity, number of entries, if used already, etc.). In fact, I am aware of cases where a passenger has been accepted at the check-in counter but rejected at the boarding gate!

Why does this happen?

What are the check-in and boarding procedures?

Overview:
  • Check-in for your flight.
  • Hand over any luggage that would need to go into the aircraft hold, if you are travelling with luggage.
  • Pass through the airport security gates to the departures hall.
  • Find your boarding gate.
  • Board the plane and fly to your destination.

Do I need to check-in at gate if I have boarding pass?

If you're traveling with just a carry-on bag, you can head to the security check as soon as you arrive at the airport, rather than making a first stop at the check-in desk, since you already have your printed boarding pass, or, better yet, you e-ticket.

What is the check-in process for international flights?

The basic structure of an international flight check in works the same as a domestic flight: You present yourself and any luggage, along with your ID and boarding pass, and go through a few security checkpoints on your way to the plane.

What is required at check-in?

Passenger identity registration At the time of check-in, one of the agent's primary duties is to check for valid documents. This includes tickets, passports, visas, letters of consent, and in some cases, passengers' address and contact details to comply with immigration requirements.
