Do I have to pay for my luggage twice?

Baggage basics Baggage fees are per bag and per direction. So one way = one charge. Round trip = two charges. If your flight has a connection, bags will generally transfer from flight to flight and no additional fees will apply.

What happens to checked bags if you change your flight?

When you purchase a connecting flight, checked baggage is usually forwarded to your final destination, and will change planes when you do. The agent at check-in will usually ask if you want your luggage checked through to your last stop.

Can return flights be changed?

Literally. Most airlines will at least let passengers change a return flight once they have departed for their flat change fee, assuming the class of service is available and the flight routing hasn't changed. If passengers need to change a flight before departure, however, that's a different story.

Do you have to recheck bags when changing airlines?

The answer depends on your ticket. If all your flights on multiple carriers are on the same ticket, your bags will be checked through to your final destination. If you're flying different carriers on different tickets, you will have to collect your bags at connecting airports and check them in for your next flight.
