I am a Ukrainian citizen and recently moved to Bulgaria for work. I have received a Blue Card as a high-skilled professional. Does this Blue Card allow me to travel without receiving additional visas to:

  1. Schengen states?
  2. EU states?

I can't find this information online. Any links/references will be much appreciated.

Which countries can I visit with Blue Card?

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. I live in a country outside of Europe; can I still apply for the EU Blue Card?

Can you work anywhere in Europe with a Blue Card?

An EU Blue Card is a residence permit for qualified non-EU foreign nationals to work in an EU country. It permits its holder to enter and remain in a particular EU country for employment.

Is Bulgaria in the EU Schengen zone?

Bulgaria is not currently a Schengen country. The Schengen Area is made up of 22 European Union states, as well as the 4 non-EU states of Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland, between which passport-free travel is permitted.

Can I travel with a Blue Card?

Does the EU Blue Card allow me to travel to other EU countries? Yes. You can visit other EU countries for up to three months during a six-month period. You can also travel through other EU countries on your way to the EU country that you live and work in.
