Can a Filipino go outside the airport and travel on my own during a layover in Incheon airport without a visa? - Modern red airplane parked on airfield

If ever I passed through immigration in Incheon (with Filipino citizenship, US tourist visa and LA as my final destination) and my choice of free transit tour is not available or full already, can I commute there on my own instead?

Best Answer

You can only pass through immigration and thus exit the airport if you can get a visum. Since the Philippines is not on this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_South_Korea You need to apply for a visum in advance.

Some airports have these "free city tours" for these tours you do not clear immigration and thus does not require a visum.

The fact that you hold a visum for the US does not make a difference for South Korea.

Can I go out of Incheon Airport during layover?

Yes, that's right. If you have an extended layover in Incheon Airport they let you leave the airport to see the beautiful city that is Seoul, South Korea. Not only do they let you leave the airport to explore, but they do the hard work for you FOR FREE.

Can you enter a country during layover?

Yes, you can leave the airport during a layover, provided your passport allows you visa-free entry to the country you're in and you have enough time between flights. In fact, some people intentionally book flights with longer layovers (which are often cheaper) so they get to see a new city.

Do you need a visa if you have a layover in another country?

A foreign citizen whose layover in the United States is for a primary purpose other than to transit, for example to visit friends or sightsee, requires a visitor (B) visa. A coasting officer seeking to enter the United States generally requires a visitor (B) visa.

Can you go outside the airport on a connecting flight?

Yes, you can leave the airport during domestic layovers. For instance, if you're a US citizen and have a layover within the country, it is legal and safe to leave the airport. Be aware that you'll probably be getting two boarding passes if the domestic layover is more than an hour.
