Applying for a Schengen visa as a tourist in Romania? - High angle of alluring young ethnic female tourist with long dark hair in stylish swimwear and sunglasses applying sunscreen cream while relaxing near outdoor swimming pool

I am a US permanent resident applying for a short-stay visa to Romania where I intend to stay for a month. I also wish to travel to Italy for a week in the third week of that month, but the Italian Embassy has told me that I would need to have the Romanian visa first. The concern is that by the time the Romanian visa is ready, I may not have time to complete the process for the Italian tourist visa.

My question is whether I can make my application at the Italian Embassy in Romania being there on a non-resident visa?

Best Answer

The Italian consulate in Bucharest have an astonishingly awful website which fails to list any useful information. However their consulate in the US has a good website, which lists the following question in their FAQ:

My US visa is expired as well as my I-94 and I cannot renew it in the US. Can I apply for a Schengen visa?

No, you cannot. We can process visa request only from legal residents of the US.

I presume their Romanian office has a similar policy, so you wouldn't be able to apply there.
